It was 11:42 am and I was standing in front of the mirror in my bedroom getting ready while Emma was napping. All of the sudden I felt like I was on a rocking ship. As I turned around to face the window, I heard Emma's crib moving back and forth in the monitor and saw the blinds swinging back and forth. That's when I realized..."holy crap, it's an earthquake." And then I froze not knowing what to do. Give me a tornado siren and I burst into action, but I have no idea how to handle a rolling earthquake. As I began to move towards Emma's room, the rolling stopped.
Here is some local news info:
"Preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey estimated the quake at magnitude 5.8, centered 29 miles east-southeast of downtown Los Angeles near Chino Hills. The earthquake's magnitude was downgraded to 5.4 at about 12:30 p.m., according to Caltech."
"Dr. Kate Hutton, a Caltech scientist, said their computers recorded 27 aftershocks by 12:40 p.m. Hutton said the strongest aftershock was magnitude-3.6. By 4:30 p.m., Caltech reported 50 aftershocks."
Welcome to sunny Cali! There was very little damage (mostly due to objects falling off shelves in businesses) and only a few minor injuries were reported. Emma slept through the entire thing and we did not feel any aftershocks. I hope that we don't feel any more rockin' and rollin' like that for the rest of the time we are here!
